Regina Skateboarding Coalition Announces Heritage Skateboard Park Grand Opening Ceremony

Published by RSC on

The wait is over. All this snow can’t stop the opening of the Regina’s newest skateboard spot. Regina Skateboarding Coalition is proud to announce the Grand Opening Ceremony of the “Heritage Skateboard Park” on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at 11:00am. The skateboard park is located at the REAL District (Formerly Evraz Place) in the Canada Centre Building. Regina Skateboarding Coalition would like to extend an invitation to media groups to cover the grand opening of Canada’s largest volunteer driven, municipally supported, publicly funded indoor skateboard park.

We are all honoured to skateboard on Treaty 4 territory, the original lands of the Cree, Ojibwe, Saulteaux, Dakota, Nakota, Lakota, and traditional homeland of the Métis. As such, we are very appreciative and humbled to have Elder Larry Oakes from the Nekaneet Cree Nation open our Grand Opening Ceremony. To follow will be remarks from Mayor Masters, partners, and guests. Afterwards, a short tour and demonstration will be provided for all attendees. All skateboarders are invited and will not be charged entry fee to attend and skateboard after the ceremony.

The Regina Skateboarding Coalition’s mission is to develop inclusive facilities, events and activities that support the physical, psychological, and social wellbeing of Regina citizens through skateboarding and skateboard culture. The vision of the Heritage Skateboard Park is to be a positive, accessible, and affordable space for anyone that wants to participate in skateboarding. Our goal is to provide skateboarding as an activity that is accessible to anyone, especially youth, from all cultural, gender, sexual and socio-economic expressions and backgrounds.

The Heritage Skateboard Park is 15,000 sq. feet and made up of ramps suitable for all abilities. This is a place you can feel comfortable to come and try advanced tricks or just learn to push for the first time in our large open spaces throughout the year. Of course, that includes Regina’s notoriously long winters!

The Heritage Skateboard Park could not be realized without the generous support of our community and funding partners, the City of Regina, The Regina Exhibition Association Limited (REAL District), Femmes Across the Board, Vans Canada, Malty National, Klein’s Welding, Landmark Painting Limited, and the Tiki Room along with many gracious donations from individuals in Regina and across Canada. We are truly grateful.
